Supercharging your weight loss with the South Beach diet isnt easy, but it may be worth it.
Although many diets come and go every year, the South Beach diet has managed to stay on top for a very long time. Some people swear by it, others cant stand it and dont get any results. While each one of us is different, there are specific diets that can be useful for most people. Lets take a look at whether or not the South Beach diet may be right for you.
First, its a good idea to look at your long term goals as well as your short term goals. The South Beach diet is about losing weight quickly, but it is also about retraining your eating habits. If you want to keep the weight that you lose off, youre going to have to stick to your modified diet. This is perhaps the component of this diet that is so difficult for many people.
Your first two weeks on the South Beach diet will be the hardest. During this phase, you are required to cut out all sugars and all flours. Basically, anything with a carb in it is a big no-no. This means fruit, juice and many other foods. This is very difficult for a lot of people and during this phase you may not feel the best physically. In fact, most people dont make it beyond the two week period, simply because it is just so hard.
Those that do are allowed to enter phase two of the diet plan. During this phase you are allowed to slowly reintroduce fruit, pasta and whole grains into your diet. However, white flour may be banned permanently from your life. This is a big lifestyle change for many people and it is very difficult to adjust. Ive tried it a couple of times and couldnt pull it off.
If you have any sort of health illness, if you are a diabetic or you have problems with your blood sugar, I might think twice about the South Beach diet. The first two weeks can wreak havoc on your sugar levels and you may experience hypoglycemic attacks. It is best to consult with your doctor if you are interested in this diet (or any diet) and do have issues with your blood sugar. Since you are cutting out carbs, your body will be going through some changes and you may have more keytones present in your urine. Ive heard that for diabetics, this may be a dangerous problem.
The South Beach diet does seem to get results for those that are able to stick with and modify their lifestyles. If you have trouble with will power, this diet may not be right for you. It may be best to stick with a gradual change diet that will allow you to slowly adapt to a healthier lifestyle.
Perhaps starting the South Beach Diet on a vacation when you dont have to worry so much about productivity at work is a good idea. You may feel pretty lousy for those first two weeks. Then again who wants to have a lousy two weeks of vacation.

Did you know there that problems reported following having your tubes tied all the way back 50+ years ago? Yes. What we call post tubal ligation syndrome has been reported for decades. You can read story after story online, especially if you go to the http://www.tubal-reversal.net message board, about the suffering women are having post tubal. Why are all these women being ignored? Why is this happening?
Well, if the quotes and information provided from an article on post tubal ligation syndrome on medicinenet.com is to be believed, all these women are being ignored by the medical establishment as a whole simply because doctors (but not all) dont believe ptls is real. Having done a study comparing hormone levels in women who have ptls symptoms and those who have not had a tubal ligation, Dr. Stephen Corson couldnt find any difference. Because of this, or so the article implies, he thinks that post tubal syndrome is nothing more than women simply getting old or because they have stopped using birth control pills.
What is really strange about this conclusion is that so many women simply dont fit into this category. However, no mention of this is made in the article so one is left wondering how the doctor explains symptoms in women who were in their 20s when they had a tubal ligation and started suffering from Post Tubal Syndrome, as it is also called, during the same decade of life. Nor does it explain the many women who had tubals done right after delivering a child. That means they werent on birth control of any kind.
Just check out Miranda. She is 27 now and had her tubes tied in 2003 after the birth via C-section of her daughter. That means she was 22 when she had her tubal. With all the pain she was suffering, among other symptoms, from post tubal ligation syndrome, I doubt you could put it down to aging or to birth control pills. Fortunately, she has a doctor who took good notes and who supported her in having a tubal reversal. Hes even looking more into ptls.
Shannon had her tubes tied back in 2001 when her daughter was born. For the last seven years, she has been suffering from a multitude of symptoms including periods that were so bad she could not leave the house for the first two days of it every month. Lets see. She had a baby right before her tubal so birth control pills couldnt be the cause of all the symptoms after it. And she is still having periods seven years later, so doesnt look like aging, menopause, could be the answer there either.
Christie was in her very early 30s when she had her tubal ligation surgery after the birth of her son. It was the morning after he was born. Looks again like we can rule out birth control pills, or any kind of birth control, as being the cause of her post tubal ligation syndrome. Her doctor, after four and a half years of her suffering and trying to get his help, tried to tell her she was just getting olderat 36! But with her tubal reversal in 2006, her life has returned. She considers her recovery to be a 100% success story.
If we go back to the article from medicinenet.com, you can read that many women are put onto birth control after the tubal ligation surgery to control the symptoms they experience. Seems rather a strange way to do things. Isnt tubal ligation supposed to be birth control? But the women still have to take pills to control symptoms that are side effects of the surgery? Well, certainly that proves that birth control pills, or more precisely going off them after the surgery, are the cause of all the symptoms.
What if you dont want to live the rest of your life, or until real menopause, on birth control. There are two other alternatives from which you can choose instead of just suffering from post tubal ligation syndrome. But both involve more surgery. The first is a hysterectomy with its own possible side effects. Please research this further if you choose to pursue it. The other is having a tubal ligation reversal done. Find the best surgeon to do this and chances are you find your life coming back to you.

Heres a suggestion (actually 2) on how to approach this. First, you can start by going through a 6-week preparation period whereby you start with eliminating all drinks other than water. Then after 2 weeks of maintaining this action, eliminate the unhealthiest food that youre consuming on a regular basis - usually that will be at least once per day, sometimes once every 2 days - and replace it with a healthy food, namely a fruit or vegetable. You can use a different fruit or vegetable each day, but you need to be sure you arent consuming the item thats putting on the extra weight. Then after 2 more weeks, all this time youve been drinking only water, and having eliminated your first diet vice replaced with a fruit or vegetable, then find the next most unhealthy food that youre consuming - and it may be a broader ID like breads - and replace it again the same way as youre first one. Do this for the remaining 2 weeks.
If you can stick with this 6 week plan, then maybe youre ready to do a cleanse.
However, and this is suggestion #2: I would approach your cleanse with a shorter duration - say 3-4 days, rather than 21 days. Again, work up to a longer cleanse so you know what youre going to be in for, and 3-4 days would certainly give you a peek at whats to come. Not to mention that it will still provide benefit, especially if you do a cleanse made for a 3-4 day stretch.
The real benefit long-term is the elimination of 2 most unhealthy foods that are contributing negatively to your weight and health, and the elimination of unhealthy liquids that are probably doing the same. These actions alone have resulted in a major improvement in weight loss and health. But a cleanse will take it a step further.
Bottom line: any changes in your diet, even ones that will last temporarily, should be approached with some caution. Research it, be sure you know what youre getting into, and be prepared for some difficult physical changes that may result. And for the long-term, make your diet and weight loss efforts be about making one small change at a time until you build a healthy and permanently fit lifestyle.

The program mainly focuses mainly on replacing foods with healthier variants. While it remains the South Beach Diet and is based on its main principles, the study is especially adapted to the needs of growing children.
