released a list of their top ten most animal-friendly superheros. What I didnt tell you (because I thought it was kinda silly) was that PETA was also pissed that a certain scene in The Dark Knight showed Batman beating a dogthat was about to attack the hell out of him. 
We got a tip from one of our loyal readers who spoke with Christine Doré the author of the PETA piece about the film. Dore said, “Basically, while I personally thought it was a fantastic movie, it was a little disappointing, that part of it. I think, you know, that it’s funny that this superhero genius that everyone loves, who has all these fantastic gadgets, who never uses guns, that he doesn’t have access to a tranquilizer or other deflecting device.” Our tipster tried to get more juice, but was quickly rerouted to PETAs official media department. Damn the man! 
OK, so now its my turn to talk about this. I think it sucks that rottweilers get a bad rap. I wish they didnt and I wish there werent so many euthanized each year. That said, I consider myself a solid 7 out of 10 on the animal rights scale and that scene didnt offend me in the least. I believe the rule (correct me if Im wrong vegans) is that violence towards animals is ONLY okay for self-defense. I love animals, but if I had a huge ass, scary Rottweiler centimeters away from destroying my face I just might have to swing too. I guess I worry about everyone (especially in the animal rights movement) being a little too sensitive about EVERYTHING. It was 2 secondsin one scenein an awesome moviewhere like everyone gets the crap beat out of them.

I just don’t get this whole ADHD thing.
And what I really don’t get is why we are so keen to feed our kids full of drugs.
There was a time when WA was a world leader in prescribing our children with stimulant medication – in recent years those figures have come down but we still dole out more than any other state or territory in Australia and we are in the top three OECD countries for diagnosing ADHD and prescribing serious drugs.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A GP from a suburban practice (part of the health district with the highest rates of stimulant prescription for children in 2006) once told me it should actually be called parent deficit disorder.
The problem, she told me, was that everyone was looking for one simple solution – they wanted their children to behave and they wanted their kids to get good marks, but they wanted to be able to get them to do it with minimal effort.
A WA Department of Health report last year found that there were 7283 children under 18 on stimulant medication. Four out of every five of those kids were boys.
We hear it from teachers all the time – their classrooms are overcrowded, they are under more and more pressure, and the boys muck around.
If only those same boys could concentrate a bit more, if they could sit still perhaps things would run a bit more smoothly.
And how often do we hear that  boys don’t like reading, they lack concentration, they don’t achieve academically at the same rate as girls, they need to focus.
Are we really just drugging our little boys to get them to be like little girls?
Forget about parents reading to those boys at home, or teachers finding books about farting and bricklaying, or introducing a style of learning more suited to physical little beings.
Instead introduce a wonder drugit makes my blood run cold.
The world of medicine has identified a disorder and the pharmacists have come up with a drug that helps people control it. Of course I believe it exists, I just don’t believe that many children have it.
I was at a three-year-old birthday party recently, where the birthday boy and his friends belted around like crazed lunatics.
I commented to the mother of the birthday boy that they all seemed to get on well and laughed at how funny they were. Her brow furrowed.
“We’ve tried everything,” she told me. “We’ve cut out all sugar and yellow food colouring, it just doesn’t make any difference, he never stops, I don’t know what we are going to do about it.”
To say the least, I was taken aback.
Next year that little boy will be in kindy and maybe he won’t be able to sit still.
How many parents, teachers and doctors are going to think there is something wrong with him? What do you think about it.
